Bösendorfer 290 Imperial Concert Grand Piano (9'6") – Pre-Owned

Pre-Owned Bösendorfer 290 Imperial Concert Grand

Few instruments have the presence, history, and unmistakable character of the Bösendorfer 290 Imperial. Measuring approximately 9'6" in length, this legendary concert grand represents the flagship of Bösendorfer’s Viennese piano-making tradition.

The Imperial is immediately distinguished by its extraordinary 97-key keyboard spanning a full eight octaves. Its additional bass notes extend below the standard 88-key range, while the additional strings also contribute sympathetic resonance throughout the instrument, giving the piano remarkable depth, warmth, and tonal color.

The 290 Imperial was originally developed at the beginning of the twentieth century after pianist and composer Ferruccio Busoni sought an instrument capable of reproducing the tremendous bass range of the organ for his transcriptions of works by J.S. Bach. The result became one of the most recognizable concert grand pianos ever created.

Bösendorfer’s distinctive Resonance Case Principle allows more of the instrument’s spruce structure to participate in producing sound, helping give the Imperial its characteristic orchestral quality—from delicate pianissimo to a powerful, resonant fortissimo.

This pre-owned Bösendorfer 290 Imperial is presented in pristine condition, offering a rare opportunity to own one of the world’s iconic concert grands.

Ideal for the serious pianist, collector, recording studio, performance venue, or private residence seeking an instrument of exceptional scale and musical character.
